Reception Desk Assembly
It’s not difficult to assemble reception area furniture. With a few common tools, some guidance and a little time, your furniture will look beautiful.
A Philips-head screw driver, small hammer and a pair of pliers is all that is necessary. The Philips-head screw driver is used to screw in the cam bolts into the MDF base wood. All the assembly materials, including wood glue is included in the parts kit. The hammer is used to tap wooden dowels into the alignment holes. And the pliers are sometimes used for the leveling feet.
The Assembly Process:
Assembly using cam-loc and bolts is simple. Furniture sections are pre-drilled to accept the cam-bolts pictured on the right with a black nylon guide post. Likewise, cam-locks are fitted into pre-drilled holes. When the two furniture sections are mated, the cam-bolt fits into the open section of the cam-lock. Then it is a simple task of turning the cam-lock 180 degrees with a Phillips head or flat screw driver to secure the joint.
Some words of caution. There are many cam-bolts and you might be tempted to use an electric drill or electric screw driver to screw the cam-bolts into the MDF. If your electric drill or screw driver has a clutch, then set the clutch to the lowest level in order to screw the bolt to the nylon stop and no more. Don’t use an electric drill or screw driver without a clutch as it will more likely strip the MDF material.
Some joints are edge to edge. Cam-loc and bolts won’t work in this situation. This is when dowel pins work best.
Holes are drilled into the edge of each section. Then add a small amount of glue and tap in the wooden dowel. Add glue to the adjoining section where the other end of the dowel pin fits. Then push the two sections together and allow the glue to dry.
In most cases, reception desks are assembled first. File pedestals and center drawers are next followed by returns or bridges. The final step is the reception counter top.
Although individual assembly times for specific models are provided on each product page, typical assembly times follow.

Moving Office Furniture:
If your furniture has an MDF core and was assembled using cam-loc and bolts, don’t attempt to drag the furniture along the floor. Although cam-lock and bolt designs make assembly easy, they are not design to withstand the sheer forces associated with dragging the furniture along the floor. If you need to move this type of furniture, lift it off the ground to reposition it.
